Alright- so… it’s been quite some time since I last posted. Michelle has been taking over the entire internets. Things have been good lately. My brother Micah just had his high school graduation about two weeks ago. We’re super proud of him. He’s going to be going to school at Mary-Hardin Baylor for his first year in college.
Other cool stuff– I have been trying to build R/C planes from scratch. There are lots of forums and videos on how to build them. The first one I tried to build was the R/C Powers Extra 300. They have a lot of really good info on there and so I thought I’d give it a try. I learned a lot from making that plane, but it was not flight worthy at all. I didn’t brace it enough with carbon tube and it just fell apart when I first tried to fly it.
The next one I tried to build was the Sumo 3D. There’s an rcgroups.com forum thread about it, and it looked really fun. I built it, and appllied a lot of what I had learned with the Extra 300 but it still didn’t fly very well. I think the propeller was on the motor backwards cause there just wasn’t enough thrust to keep it in the air it seemed. I think I also learned a bit about hand launching and giving the plane a bit more speed.
Since then I have purchased the AXN Floater Jet / Cloud Sky. So far this thing has been a real adventure! The first day I took it out to the soccer field near our house to fly it- there were 15+ mph winds. I brought it down quickly after take off realizing that things weren’t going smoothly. The landing was fine into some tall grass…
Last night we took it out again– much calmer wind conditions and everything seemed like it was going well at first. About a minute into the flight or so the plan got down wind from me and I was having a lot of trouble turning it around to come back towards me. It was up pretty high too, so I cut the motor and was going to try and land it slowly. I landed it…. but it was in the middle of a giant, unkempt cow pasture. Michelle, Lucky, Rylee and myself looked for the plane for about 15 minutes… we were wearing shorts in grass up to my waist. We quickly decided we needed to go and get jeans on… So after a quick change, and about 30 more minutes of hiking through brush and trees looking for the plane, we found it! It was still in one piece too!
Anyways- that was our adventure last night. Life is good… chigger bites are bad. Michelle and I are both doing well.

Warcraft Servers are down and it’s a slow day at work. Boo… :)
Here’s is Slyse… my Rogue that I spend far too much time playing and not spending time with the love of my life.
My guild, Vibe is progressing pretty well through Icecrown Citadel (ICC25). We got Professor Putricide and Valithria Dreamwalker down last week and 38% on Blood-Queen Lana’thel after only 3 attempts. We’ll get her down this week for sure and then we’re just one more boss away from The Lich King!

Awesome. The hackintosh is really complete now. :) I got Bonjour and Time Machine working now with my Time Capsule. I was following some instructions on how to set my ethernet adaptor into “promiscuous” mode which would supposedly fix it, but it wasn’t working for me. I could access shares by doing the normal “Connect to Server” stuff in Finder, but shares weren’t being magically found via Bonjour– even after setting en0 to promisc mode.
Why wasn’t ‘ifconfig en0 promisc‘ working?
…. Turns out the ethernet jack I was plugged into was en1.
There’s my blonde moment for the week. Anyways- that’s fixed now. :)

Oh hells yeah… I edited a couple of lines and recompiled my DSDT.aml file… voila!
1024mb GTX 280.
“VRAM,totalsize”,
Buffer (0×04)
{
0×00, 0×00, 0×00, 0×40
},
I had to change the last hex value from 0×20 to 0×40. Then I changed the “Chipset Model” to be my specific card, which involved changing the buffer length that stores the string and the string itself.

My hackintosh is now almost officially complete.
Things that are working:
Full 1920×1200 resolution with full accelaration on my GTX 280.
Ethernet
Sound
64bit kernel
Wireless! (this one took some work!)
I even got wireless working with My Belkin F5D7050B (v3000) USB 802.11g dongle! That one took some doing… Belkin doesn’t release OSX driver so I had to download drivers from Ralink who makes a USB dongle with the same chipset.
Things that still need work:
System Profiler only shows 512mb on my graphics card. Is it using the full 1024mb?
See if I can get wireless to be treated as an “airport” card.
I am soon to be the proud owner of an Align T-REX 450 V2 SE…
I’ve been reading the Helifreak.com forums a lot lately and been wanting to learn to fly R/C helis for a while now. So… yesterday I made an offer on a helicopter and the seller and I were able to come up with a pretty good deal. My new heli should be in the mail Friday. I’m very excited. I got a my brand new Spektrum DX7 transmitter a couple of days back and my copy of Phoenix R/C Simulator arrived yesterday. I crashed thousands of dollars worth of helicopters and airplanes last night.
In other news- Michelle and I signed on our new home yesterday! I’m super excited about moving in closer to my new work. It’s going to be much nicer driving 20-30 minutes to work instead of 50-60 minutes every day. We officially get the place on the 21st, but Michelle has like three tests that week so most likely we won’t be moving in until the following weekend. Anyone feel like lifting boxes?!
Alright… there. Is that enough of an update for you, Michelle?
Just kidding… just kidding. Michelle has been nagging me about something I really needed to do a long time ago. So- here’s the scoop. I’ve moved to Austin. I’m living with my amazing girlfriend in Bastop, Tx. This is a temporary living situation. We’ve already got plans to move into a home in South Austin by the end of the month.
Michelle and I will soon be renting a cute little house together. The house was built in 2005 and has three bedrooms and 2 bath. It’s got a two car garage and is in the perfect location for Michelle and me, right near the intersection of highway 173 and 71. She’ll be 30-40 minutes from her school/work and I’ll be about 30 minutes to my work– much better than the hour drive I’ve been doing every day to my new job!
Ahh… a new job? Yep! I’m now officially working in Austin. I don’t want to get into the same issues that I did by talking about my previous employer on the blog so I won’t talk much more about it, but I’m enjoying the change. I’m still a “Software Engineer” and so far everything is going great with the transition. I think everything will be even better once the move into Austin is over and Michelle and I can start exploring the big city together.
Alright. I’ll update again soon. It’s been way too long since my last update… I know I’m a slacker.
Well, well, well… It’s already December. I’m surprisingly ahead of the game this year with nearly 85% of my Christmas shopping done! That’s a very good thing because I’m often not one to be so prepared. Most of the time I’m more of a last minute shopper and worry so much about making sure I get everyone the perfect gift that I end up not getting anyone anything they will like. This Christmas, I’m confident will be a good one.
The first sign of a better Christmas came to my inbox just today:
Now, that’s a sign of a good Christmas when you’ve got everything paid for and you’ve already done 85% of your shopping! Now- to find something perfect for Michelle… Why are the people you know best always the hardest to shop for?

Alright, it’s been a while since I last wrote. I know I’m guilty of laziness sometimes, but I blame my office chair. Yes. I slouch a lot. I slouch so much in fact that my chair at work has started to lean back so far that it’s not comfortable to type when I’m leaning back that far. I blame any lack of productivity on my chair- bad chair.
So! Last night I went and lost $10 poker. We were playing over in Baylor Plaza 2 with Jeremy, Burke, and a bunch of other guys that I didn’t really know. Anyways, it was fun all in all… I just didn’t play a few hands very well and got unlucky on a couple of hands.
MORE IMPORTANTLY – - I’ve got a plane ticket to El Paso for the 25 of July. I’m going to fly out there and help Michelle drive back to CenTex. I’m really looking forward to seeing her. We will have been apart for just over a month- way too long. I love this girl and it’s not been fun to be so far apart this summer. Hopefully we won’t have to go through this kind of distance again for a long time.
In the meantime, I’ve got Nightcrawler back living with me. I love that cat. He woke me up this morning just a few minutes before my alarm clock went off and was purring and meowing and rubbing his head up against my leg. Crazy cat… it’s been good to have him around. The apartment is really empty without Mbagnick (room mate) around and he’s not coming back till the end of the month.
