Dry ICE!

Chelle got some Lou Malnatti's Pizza for her birthday and this is the fun we had with the dry ice that it's shipped in... :)

It’s Tuesday…

Warcraft Servers are down and it's a slow day at work.  Boo...  :)

Here's is Slyse... my Rogue that I spend far too much time playing and not spending time with the love of my life.

My guild, Vibe is progressing pretty well through Icecrown Citadel (ICC25). We got Professor Putricide and Valithria Dreamwalker down last week and 38% on Blood-Queen Lana'thel after only 3 attempts. We'll get her down this week for sure and then we're just one more boss away from The Lich King!

Bonjour / Time Machine Work!

Awesome.  The hackintosh is really complete now.  :)  I got Bonjour and Time Machine working now with my Time Capsule.  I was following some instructions on how to set my ethernet adaptor into "promiscuous" mode which would supposedly fix it, but it wasn't working for me.  I could access shares by doing the normal "Connect to Server" stuff in Finder, but shares weren't being magically found via Bonjour-- even after setting en0 to promisc mode.

Why wasn't 'ifconfig en0 promisc' working?

....  Turns out the ethernet jack I was plugged into was en1.

There's my blonde moment for the week.  Anyways- that's fixed now.  :)

I am good…

Oh hells yeah... I edited a couple of lines and recompiled my DSDT.aml file... voila!

1024mb GTX 280.

"VRAM,totalsize",

Buffer (0x04)

{

0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x40

},

I had to change the last hex value from 0x20 to 0x40.  Then I changed the "Chipset Model" to be my specific card, which involved changing the buffer length that stores the string and the string itself.
Final Result:

Hackintosh Nearly Complete!

My hackintosh is now almost officially complete.

Things that are working:

  • Full 1920x1200 resolution with full accelaration on my GTX 280.
  • Ethernet
  • Sound
  • 64bit kernel
  • Wireless!  (this one took some work!)

I even got wireless working with My Belkin F5D7050B (v3000) USB 802.11g dongle!  That one took some doing...  Belkin doesn't release OSX driver so I had to download drivers from Ralink who makes a USB dongle with the same chipset.

Things that still need work:

  • System Profiler only shows 512mb on my graphics card.  Is it using the full 1024mb?
  • See if I can get wireless to be treated as an "airport" card.

Here she is!  :)

Where’s the ring?

More important than Asian Smileys...

Michelle got an engagement ring worth as much as a small car... and she doesn't even bother to post pictures of it on our blog.

What's up with that?

T-REX 450 V2 SE

I am soon to be the proud owner of an Align T-REX 450 V2 SE...

I've been reading the Helifreak.com forums a lot lately and been wanting to learn to fly R/C helis for a while now.  So... yesterday I made an offer on a helicopter and the seller and I were able to come up with a pretty good deal.  :-)   My new heli should be in the mail Friday.  I'm very excited.  I got a my brand new Spektrum DX7 transmitter a couple of days back and my copy of Phoenix R/C Simulator arrived yesterday.  I crashed thousands of dollars worth of helicopters and airplanes last night.  :-D

In other news- Michelle and I signed on our new home yesterday!  I'm super excited about moving in closer to my new work.  It's going to be much nicer driving 20-30 minutes to work instead of 50-60 minutes every day.  We officially get the place on the 21st, but Michelle has like three tests that week so most likely we won't be moving in until the following weekend.  Anyone feel like lifting boxes?!  :-D

Our new home!!  My new heli!!  Check it out:

Watching Chuck & Heroes… in Austin.

I'm living in Austin!

Alright... there.  Is that enough of an update for you, Michelle?  :)

Just kidding... just kidding.  Michelle has been nagging me about something I really needed to do a long time ago.  So- here's the scoop.  I've moved to Austin.  I'm living with my amazing girlfriend in Bastop, Tx.  This is a temporary living situation.  We've already got plans to move into a home in South Austin by the end of the month.

Michelle and I will soon be renting a cute little house together.  The house was built in 2005 and has three bedrooms and 2 bath.  It's got a two car garage and is in the perfect location for Michelle and me, right near the intersection of highway 173 and 71.  She'll be 30-40 minutes from her school/work and I'll be about 30 minutes to my work-- much better than the hour drive I've been doing every day to my new job!

Ahh... a new job?  Yep!  I'm now officially working in Austin.  I don't want to get into the same issues that I did by talking about my previous employer on the blog so I won't talk much more about it, but I'm enjoying the change.  I'm still a "Software Engineer" and so far everything is going great with the transition.  I think everything will be even better once the move into Austin is over and Michelle and I can start exploring the big city together.

Alright.  I'll update again soon.  It's been way too long since my last update...  I know I'm a slacker.  :-P

It’s almost Christmas!

Well, well, well...  It's already December.  I'm surprisingly ahead of the game this year with nearly 85% of my Christmas shopping done!  That's a very good thing because I'm often not one to be so prepared.  Most of the time I'm more of a last minute shopper and worry so much about making sure I get everyone the perfect gift that I end up not getting anyone anything they will like.  :-D   This Christmas, I'm confident will be a good one.

The first sign of a better Christmas came to my inbox just today:

Now, that's a sign of a good Christmas when you've got everything paid for and you've already done 85% of your shopping!  Now- to find something perfect for Michelle...  :-)    Why are the people you know best always the hardest to shop for?

Recent Happenings…

Alright, it's been a while since I last wrote.  I know I'm guilty of laziness sometimes, but I blame my office chair.  Yes.  I slouch a lot.  I slouch so much in fact that my chair at work has started to lean back so far that it's not comfortable to type when I'm leaning back that far.  I blame any lack of productivity on my chair- bad chair.

So!  Last night I went and lost $10 poker.  We were playing over in Baylor Plaza 2 with Jeremy, Burke, and a bunch of other guys that I didn't really know.  Anyways, it was fun all in all...  I just didn't play a few hands very well and got unlucky on a couple of hands.

MORE IMPORTANTLY - - I've got a plane ticket to El Paso for the 25 of July.  I'm going to fly out there and help Michelle drive back to CenTex.  I'm really looking forward to seeing her.  We will have been apart for just over a month- way too long.  I love this girl and it's not been fun to be so far apart this summer.  Hopefully we won't have to go through this kind of distance again for a long time.

In the meantime, I've got Nightcrawler back living with me.  I love that cat.  He woke me up this morning just a few minutes before my alarm clock went off and was purring and meowing and rubbing his head up against my leg.  Crazy cat...  it's been good to have him around.  The apartment is really empty without Mbagnick (room mate) around and he's not coming back till the end of the month.

Alright-- I better end this here.

Missing my girl…

Missing my girl... and too broke to do anything about.  Today was "bill paying" day.  Our electric bill was $250 this month because our air conditioner was broken and we had to run it on 50 degrees to keep it even mildly cool in the apartment.  That, tacked on with an expensive last month ($400 suit, $300 bed & breakfast, jewelry, $400 Playstation 3, $150+ spent at restaurants, gas, etc) and I'm pretty much out of money for the next couple of weeks.  :)   That's not to say that all these things weren't worth it- they definitely were.  I'm just recuperating a little bit!

This weekend I saw Wanted with Josh Moore.  Pretty decent movie.  It reminded me a lot of both Shoot 'Em Up and Jumper.  It had action sequences like Jumper along with humor very similar to Shoot 'Em Up.  Overall, I'd give it a B+.  Very entertaining movie.  The only thing that was lacking was a little bit of the plot development.  It was better developped than Jumper, but was still lacking.  There's no explanation of the root CAUSE of the story- where is the loom getting messages from?  Fate-- seriously?  Anyways, good movie overall.

It's getting closer and closer to August, which is when Michelle is planning on moving to Austin (or Bastrop).  Most likely that is the next time I will get to see her!  It's sad, but it's only 3 more weeks, so I know it won't be that bad!  It will definitely be exciting to help her get moved into her new place.  While we're still not sure where that new home will be, I'm certain it will be awesome when it all falls into place!!!  :D   I miss my girl... badly.

. . . New Suit. . .

Yesterday after work, I went to Men's Wearhouse.  I am now the (proud?) owner of a new suit.  It's still getting tailored, but I'll be able to pick it up Friday.  I spent a little more than I would have liked, but I guess this is a real investment.  Hopefully Michelle will like the way it looks on me.  I thought it looked good on me in the store, but what do I know?  :-D   I'll probably end up looking like a goober.  What's new, right?

Check it out:

My New Suit

Also-- only one more week until MIchelle and I are together again!  She's flying into DFW on Wednesday and we'll be going to Leo's wedding together.  We'll be staying in an awesome bed and breakfast- The Inn Above Onion Creek.  It should be very very cool.  I'm sure we'll take some pictures.  Michelle- don't forget your camera?  :-)

Check out the place we're staying:

So, Wednesday night is Leo's wedding.  Thursday we'll be driving around Bastrop TX looking for apartments or other places for Michelle to live when she moves in August.  That should be fun.  We'll be getting to know Bastrop a little better and hopefully get a couple places to choose from for her as she starts out grad school!

Friday and Saturday will be spent in Waco just being lazy.  I'll have to work Friday, but hopefully Michelle will do lunch with me so that won't be TOO terrible.  I'm sure she'll find something to do...  Sunday she flies out and I won't see her again for quite a while!  :-/
